Bibliofile Project: Initial Sketching

My initial sketches quickly lead me in the direction of two models of navigation. The more prevalent model being that of the web-based email model. I view this as the model through which the user can view, organize, tag, and quickly find highlights of which they are already aware. The second model borrows heavily from the node-surfing navigation of Thinkmap’s Visual Thesaurus. I view this model as the most effective approach to viewing connections between highlights and exploring/discovering new highlights from the public database.

Here are a few of the sketches from this phase:

Grappling with overall interface layout

Jotting down user goals / exploring node-based navigation

Exploring details of the email-style interface

Understanding the layout of an expanded entry

Wrestling with the visual node-surfing model
